• At Change Clinic we offer both couples and family therapy.

Couples therapy helps couples recognize and resolve conflicts to improve their relationships. It is usually short term, occurring over 8-10 sessions.

We often see couples as they attempt to cope with:

    • problems with intimacy and sexual activity
    • infidelity
    • parenting
    • blended families
    • financial pressures
    • in-laws
    • work-life balance

In couples therapy significant effort is made to determine the nature of the conflict; how it impacts each partner, and what strategies can be used to resolve the conflict. The goal is to help a couple make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding their relationships or going their separate ways.

As well, we recognize that serious or chronic illness can place enormous stress on a couple's relationship. It is well known that caregivers can experience emotional distress similar to that experienced by the patient. We focus on helping couples come together as a team to challenge the impact of illness.

Family therapy is often short term. It may include all family members or just those able or willing to participate. Your specific treatment plan will depend on your family's situation. Family therapy sessions can teach you skills to deepen family connections and get through stressful times, even after you're done going to therapy sessions.

As well, we recognize that serious or chronic illness can place enormous stress on families. Spouses and children, siblings and parents, can all struggle to know how to work together to best respond to each other's needs and the needs of the ill person. We work with families to help them establish effective communication channels to build the foundation necessary to support all members of the family.
