• Access to our services

    There are two ways you can access our services:

    1. Self-Referal: You can contact Change Clinic directly to request an appointment. 
    2. Referral from a Physician: You can be referred to Change Clinic by your family physician, psychiatrist, or other healthcare professional.  Simply ask your referrer to send a letter, fax or email to us, including your contact details and a brief description of reasons for your referral.

      Once we have your referral, our office will contact you within 24 hours to arrange your initial appointment.  If you are waiting for a professional to send us a referral, please feel free to contact us directly to speed the process along.

     

  • Intake and assessment

    Your Intake

    After you contact us via email, telephone, or the online referral form, our Intake Coordinator, Sarah, will call you to complete a brief intake. Sarah will ask you for your full name, age, and a general description of why you seeking assistance from Change Clinic. During the intake Sarah will also answer any questions you have about Change Clinic and our team.

    Your First Appointment

    You will be asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to your first session to complete administrative forms. During this initial session your therapist will initiate a "clinical interview" in which he/she will ask you about your emotional and physical health, your family and relationships, your schooling/employment, and your overall stressors. Most importantly, your therapist will inquire about your current distress and discuss approaches that can be taken to help.

    Duration of Appointments

    Appointments are 50 minutes in length. The remaining 10 minutes of the hour are used by your therapist to write "session notes" to document the appointment. In some cases, the initial session may be longer, up to 1.5 or 2 hours, depending on the assessment required. Prior to your first appointment, your therapist will contact you if he/she feels a longer initial appointment is required; otherwise you can expect your first and following sessions to be 50 minutes.

    Frequency of Appointments

    Usually, our clients are seen every week or every other week. Nearing the end of therapy, clients may be seen less frequently. As well, it is not uncommon for our clients to return for "mental health check-ups" on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. We will also do our best to accommodate to your schedule or special arrangements, such as, early morning, evening, or weekend appointments, and/or telephone or Skype sessions scheduled.

    You can expect a response within 24 hours if you leave a voicemail or email the clinic on a weekday.  If you contact the clinic on a weekend or statutory holiday, we will get in touch with you the following business day. Subsequent bookings can also be confirmed personally with your therapist at the end of each session, or by email or telephone.

  • Confidentiality

    At Change Clinic, you are under the care of Registered Healthcare Professionals. As such, your confidentiality and privacy are protected in the same way as when you see your Family Physician or General Practitioner. Our regulatory body, the College of Psychologists of Ontario, requires us to review with you confidentiality, limits of confidentiality, and Change Clinic's privacy policy prior to initiating any assessment or treatment. Your therapist will do this at the beginning of your first appointment.
